Questions
Hello Fellas,
Newby here and have a couple of questions for all you (experts in my book). Joined last September and been hanging in the shadows reading threads on this very informative forum. Really have enjoyed reading a lot since September. I have a couple of questions, but first would like to give some background facts: 1) Purchased a 1929 Model "A" Roadster [ engine serial # 2485882 ] and took delivery last August. Pretty Nice driver vehicle but with issues. Engine barely running but definitely not road worthy. 2) Top or roof partially installed, lights / horn inoperable, carburetor leaking gas, differential leaking oil, front end shimmy, just some of the issues. 3) Tinkered with light/horn rod and got operable, removed steering sector and sent off to have rebuilt, received back rebuilt and installed. 4) Has a previously installed electronic ignition, cylindrical 6 volt generator, speedo not working, no rear window. Questions: 1) After installing rebuilt steering sector and trying to install light switch/ horn rod determined it to be too short as not room for spring, spider & keeper. measured rod and it measures 45 3/4 inch. It worked before I sent the steering sector off for rebuild but will not work now. I realize a rod is available at 45 31/32 inch, but an extra 3/32 inch is not going to be enough. Any advice on how to fix would be greatly appreciated? 2) Since it has electronic ignition already installed, do I need to convert to a 6 volt alternator for ignition to operate at maximum efficiently? 3) For relatively long drives {at speeds above 45 MPH} should I consider eliminating the Tilly carb and replacing with a Zenith carb? Hoping I haven't been to long winded. Looking forward to help with these problems. Not ready to send pictures now, but maybe soon. Regards, Jim |
