A&L Horn Swap
I have a like-new A&L 6-volt Sparton Horn, but my car has a 12-volt system. I want to trade my 6-volt horn for a 12-volt A&L horn.

Re: A&L Horn Swap
You might want to call Allan or Bob at A & L and ask if they can convert the 6 to 12! Wayne

Re: A&L Horn Swap
I think all you need is a resister in line with the horn to drop the voltage to 6V. I am sure Tom W. can give you the correct value and wattage. I have never done it before, but I know it will work. That would be easier than trying to find a person to swap with.

Re: A&L Horn Swap
Bratton's has the resistor that fits inside the horn. Part # 20050 Bert's has one that mounts on the frame rail #A-1320-B

Re: A&L Horn Swap
A&L must have built the new Sparton horn I got from Bert's several years ago.....it is darn near perfect and sounds GREAT!!!! Hard to tell from an original! Kept my original it's in a box in the garage.

Re: A&L Horn Swap
A transformer is more efficient to drop the voltage, but a resistor is smaller and easier to install. Like CT Jack states, you only use the horn very, very intermittently, so efficiency is not a problem in my opinion.
