Default Model A Slant Winshield Sportsmans Coupe??...What is going on here?

I noticed this car listed on eBay.co.uk.

Anyone got any ideas what it is? The listing is for a "1929 Ford Model "A" Sportsmans Coupe".

Here is the link to the listing with other photos as well:

Fordially,

John Charlton is just going to have to drive to North Yourkshire to check it out for us all. I kind of like it.
Could it have been specially built in Britain like those nice unique Cabriolets that were built in Germany?
Is that an EXTINGUISHER on the running board?

The slope to the door/window tops indicate the doors are from a Fordor. The front seat also appears to be from a S/W Fordor.

Just seen that as well. It has a definate South American look about it .S/W cars where not sold new here so I doubt if it was concocted in England . BUT you never know it just could be a factory prototype built in 1929 and worth zillions !!! Maybe I ought to bid but then again maybe not.

John in very dry sunny England

It looks like the front door and cowl are from a Victoria or a S/W sedan. I overlayed the picture on a picture of a Victoria and the door and cowl lined up. The interior and exterior door handles are the same as a Vicky or S/W sedan. However the door garnish below the windows is way too short.

Did they ever have the '31 slant body in the UK anyway?
I don't think so. Not sure.
Are you joking? Looks great to me.

You'd be the only one like it at the car show, that's for sure! It looks to be well-done, not cobbled up. Did Ford make one like it? Not that I've ever seen or heard of.

I'd love to see how the visor was done.
It looks like there is an air gap at the roof line, like the visors on later '30's cars. I like the angle and depth of it.

It's also nice to see that someone knows which way the ends of Landau irons should face.

I think we agree that it is a 'made up ' job. Maybe better looking without visor.
Ive seen a 400A made up from Tudor, giveaway was also a visor & metal frame for the top.
Interestingly, Ford Australia assembled 74 1930 Sport Coupe bodies but seem to have used their own doors patterned from Murray type Fordor, & not the Coupe/Tudor door.It was a straight windshield job. New Zealand got the regular Canadian/US Sport Coupe.
That '29 maroon p'up is a very nice looking unit

And then only 69 of them -mine is a survivor,

I don't like it either! Why would you go to all that trouble and expense to build (IMO) a deformed monster ? You could probably buy an original car for less.

Hi Karl
According to Ford Canada records ,in 1928 122 ;1929 83 & 1930 62 Sport Coupes were sent to New Zealand. It would be interesting to know how many still survive. I think the tops proved their demise. Always remember one bombing around New Brighton area in mid '60's with a tin roof fitted; it was later restored.

Speaking of tin tops, I remember in the early seventies looking at a '29 roadster out the back of Feilding and the roof had been plastered with concrete over the original topping and bows, nice neat job, with landau irons neatly painted on each side. Can you imagine what that weighed.

Whoops I better change the display sign I had made stating that 69 came to NZ in 1930. I know of five 1930 Sports Coupes Mine, Ray Irvins in Levin , One from Auckland that is in a South Island museum and Des Locke has one at Opiki that needs the body done and is for sale . A year or so back there was another on TradeMe with just its top to be done to complete its restoration Some guy has an original (including top) 1928 in Palmerston North.
