Need help with a 1940 Ford Panel
I'm the new owner of a 40 Ford Panel and just pulled it into my shop and noticed something strange about the hood / front fenders.
The fenders and hood were inside the panel when I bought it and as I pulled it into my shop I started to mock up the hood and fenders and noticed the the line where the hood meets the fenders does not look right. It looks like there is a gap between the hood / fenders and body. Does the photo below look correct ? Thanks for any help Mike |

I believe you have a car hood. Panels and trucks did not have side stainless.

Definitely not truck hood, possible the fenders are not either but need more photos. This is what the front should look like.

Any chance it's a 3/4 ton panel which would have entirely different front sheet metal than the sedan delivery? The wheelbase looks kinda long to be a sedan delivery.

That "flathead" looks a little suspicious, also! DD

I just bought the Panel from a shop about 20 miles down the road. It is sitting on what looks like a 70 Chevelle Chassis and the geometry looks right. It appears that they only installed the big block 454 in there for mock up of the firewall (It needs a complete rebuild). I will be installing a Ford Drivetrain first and foremost and already have a 4.6 police interceptor with AODe tranny out of a crown vic sitting on the floor in my shop. I appreciate the feedback on the (Car Hood) and the fact that car hoods came with the stainless trim. It looks like the truck hoods had an embossed/raised metal strip down the side. That makes sense and I should be able to make this hood work with a little fabrication. Thanks again Mike |
