metal spare tire cover
I have seen pictures of metal spare tire covers in some very old publicity pictures of 1930/31 Model As so I assume they were supplied by ford. My question is as supplied by Ford was the outer part of the cover that covers the tread originally stainless (as is commonly available now )or chrome plated. I have seen both. Which is correct or were both correct? Anybody know positively? Thanks

Re: metal spare tire cover
I have original covers on my Vicky and they are chrome plated. The side covers are painted black.

Re: metal spare tire cover
In the yellow cover reprint of the Service Bulletins for April 1931 page 554 bottom page number 277 there is an illustration of the "New style metal tire cover" . I have the outer cover NOS the moulding is stainless steel not chrome plate . On the inside it has a small transfer in red and gold in an elongated oval marked "Made in Canada" . This was found in an old Ford dealerchip in Manchester England in upstairs storage when the building was being demolished along with several NOS fenders . I have been searching for years for the inner face plate but no luck yet .

Re: metal spare tire cover
I have a metal cover on my deluxe delivery's side mount and on the rear mounted spare on my 31 sport coupe. Both are painted body color on the face plate with a black ring. They look very good , but are probably a pain to get off and store without damage in case of a flat.

I have an original Canadian Lyon Cover made by Skinner Mfg of Ottawa, Ontario which was chrome plated face and outer cover. Enough to blind oncoming traffic.
