transmission shift knob
Someone was making wood transmission gearshift knobs with nicely engraved woodwork. They advertised in the last Model A News and indicated a web site. The web site appears to have been taken down. Does anyone know anything about this cottage industry.

Re: transmission shift knob
Speedway has a couple. They are also found on eBay at greatly inflated prices.

Re: transmission shift knob
I tried to make contact with him about an order. No luck. Seemed to be very non communicative. I just gave up.

Re: transmission shift knob
Seems like you could find a suitable size wooden ball for sale on the INTERNET and drill it, tap it to fit the shifter. Probably can find all kinds of special wood too. (e.g. mahogany, walnut, oak, cherry, etc.) You have inspired me to check this out myself.

Re: transmission shift knob
They sell 3" Birch wooden balls on Amazon. These are unfinished. The thread for the shifter knob is 5/16-24. You can drill the wooden ball for a threaded furniture insert, install it into the wooden ball and then finish the ball anyway you want. Seems like a good project.

Re: transmission shift knob
I got one about 6 months ago from that guy in Georgia and I like it a lot. I will try to get another one in a few weeks if he is still around.

Re: transmission shift knob
Thanks to all who responded. Does anyone know of or have an original Model A mushroom shift knob? I have one on my overdrive shifter and would like to have another for the trans shifter.
