Oil Pan modification
Anyone know or have a picture of how much modification to the windage tray on an early oil pan there is to use an 8BA oil pump/pick up??? OR is it trial an error fit???

Re: Oil Pan modification
I simply cut away ONLY enough of the baffle to allow fitment of the sump.
I know some guys cut away the entire baffle. I wish they had experienced all the times I have repaired these old Fords for guys that had done just that. The baffle was there for a reason. Henry wasn't known for spending money unnecessarily.

Mike
I "think" I've seen where all that is needed is elongating the slot opening for the pick up tube??? I don't have the pan right now, its at the painters and wish I had done this before BUT was hoping to get an idea of a plan of attack to keep from having to cut and try and cut some more and try...Etc Etc. |

I don't have the windage tray in my 34 first generation engine (short story, someone put a 35 pan on it. I've since bought a good used 34 pan, but no tray). I've exhausted looking for one, so I'm wondering about a couple of things? As the parts image shows, there appears to be three baffles wedged into the bottom side of the horizontal tray....do they go all the way to the bottom of the pan or stay just an 1/8th off the bottom or so? They look curved at the ends....are they "cupped"? Is there a reason to have the horizontal tray other than holding the baffles in place as it's wedged between the pan sides? I'm thinking of forming three baffles, spot welding them to the sides at the approximate spots, and give up looking for the "hens teeth". Any thoughts? |
