Default Any Idea what/where this goes

Anyone recognize this piece and where it goes, it was in with a bunch of engine parts

It was wired inside of the Oil Pan of a flathead...I've never seen anything like it??? Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something

I suspect that was lying in the oil pan when the pan was installed. I don't think something that size could get into the pan with an assembled engine, even with the intake off. Maybe an artifact of getting the pan boiled out and stuck in there by a baffle.

I've never seen that item in any flathead that I've taken apart or inspected. God only knows who put it in there . . . and why . . .

Yes welded inside bottom of the oil pan for the oil pump pick up tube, 33-35 steel oil pan. Maybe 32 also??

Thank you Terry, makes sense.....Going with an 8BA pump and pickup w/screen SO would think it to be unnecessary now??

'35 oil pan sump as well and very late '32 steel oil pan,, but none of them had any holes in them. originally.

I think what happened, for some reason someone drilled the spot welds out and removed it from the pan!!!!

I would agree. You can see where the drill caused some burrs on a few of the holes.
