Default Stripped block inserts

Has anyone tried a product like a helicoil called time-serts for stripped and pulled threads in the model a block. They are a solid insert rather than a coil insert.I am concerned a helicoil might not hold. Any first hand actual expirences here with this or the helicoil in this application would be appreciated. Thanks

I've used them. In my opinion they are far superior to helicoils. I drill straight, tap with oil, clean the hole and insert with alcohol, apply red loctite to the OUTER threads of the insert and oil to the special tap and install. Be careful because its easy to over bore the countersink and the insert will end up below the surface. I have never had one pull out or any other problem with them. I've used them in spark plug holes, cover holes, oil drain plug holes, etc. on bikes and cars. Expensive but worth it to me.

Either seem to work very well; just be sure you have some kind of jig that allows you to drill straight into the block and not go too deep, as earbleeder suggests. But even that can be repaired.

time serts are great
I have one in my Toyota
I pulled the threads out
to buy the kit was too much
I just took the car over to a local repair shop
he had the whole kit
and I think it cost me $60 bucks,(the kit was over $100)
installed
havnt had a problem with it and the torque is higher than a model A
also used one in an acura legend spark plug hole
much better than a helicoil

Time-sert is far superior to the spring style inserts.

If you do ever get one to come out, you can insert another.

I have an expensive time-sert kit for repairing aircooled VW spark plug holes - springstyle insets have ruined many heads by coming out on a spark plug and expanding, galling and ruining the hole. I've yet to have a time-sert come out.
