A very comprehensive look into the cars offered by the Ford Motor Company for 1957.
Well worth grabbing a copy of this great magazine.

Read an article once which stated that Ford outsold the competition in 57. Hard to believe

Why is that so hard to believe? The mid-fifties Fords had much better styling, offered more powerful engines and options than the competitively priced alternatives. People responded to that.
The '57 Chevy's went begging back then. The car dealers couldn't keep new '57 Ford's on their lots to sell.
In the early '70's, nearly all the mid '50's Fords were used up and gone. But kids were buying up slightly used '57 Chebbies for peanuts.
Particularly in '57, Ford went to the new lower wider, more aerodynamic design while Chebby lagged behind with their high center of gravity bubble-top with a front end that acted like a wall of steel pushing against the wind. People ate up the new sleeker look of the Ford's. Not to mention the countless stories of guys blowing the doors off of a '57 Chebby, 427 in their '57 Ford's with mere 292 Y-block.
No surprise to me at all.

Dave, did you ever hear the story that 1957 was kind of a car design that just happened to be a hit, in anticipation of the 1958 model?

Yep Ford outsold that other car company in ‘57! My dad bought a ‘57 Meteor Rideau that year and it is my very first memory at age two in ‘58, which you are not supposed to have. Way better lines and the lower sleeker look was just magic.

Bought that mag this afternoon mainly for that article and about the Ply Mouth commercial vehicles as I have a ‘42 Fart and Go...
