Unless you need to paint the wheel to conceal repairs, they were originally unpainted.

If you insist on painting your steering wheel, what I have used is single stage urethane with the necessary prep and a color of you choice.
It is wear resistant.

Re: Correct spray paint for 33/34 steering wheel
I had a wheel in very bad shape, so I filled the cracks w/ 'body mud'and dried for some time, then hand-sanded lightly, spray-painted black, spray-urethane.
Enjoyed driving, w/a great 'feel' - smooth as glass. (If you must do the resto, and like high-gloss wheel, do it! (I had the wheel outta the cab when doing the thorough job. It looked outstanding. Last edited by highbeams; 07-20-2022 at 12:34 AM. Reason: clarify |

Re: Correct spray paint for 33/34 steering wheel
Thank you all I really appreciate it. I repaired a crack on the bottom and on the side and wanted to paint it to look nice and cover the primer on top of the repairs

Just use a good paint with a hardener for "primer" and "top coat" and you won't have to worry about a primer showing through with wear. I agree with Dave. Steering wheels were not painted.

My recommend is an epoxy paint, rattle can, satin black. hard as nails. The satin hides hand prints better.
