Press on cam gear 48 teeth.
I've found a couple of interesting cams based on the 1932 Ford billet steel cam, one is a nos genuine Winfield and the other is a very early Isky cam for Ardun heads. I wish to use these in a 59a block and i need to find a solution for the cam gear difference.
Did earlier cams, (pre-35?) use the smaller cam gear with 44 teeth, shown on the two cams? I know that some people have machined earlier cams to accept bolt on gears but i wish to keep them original. Any source for a gear like that? Any help appreciated. Thanks. Last edited by OHV DeLuxe; 10-23-2015 at 07:18 AM. |

Re: Press on cam gear 48 teeth.
If youre gonna machine a bolted gear to press on it includes adding material.
Arent so-cal making steel ones, have them make one for presson or sell you one unmachined. They are spur types and make a nice whine |

Re: Press on cam gear 48 teeth.
Press on aluminum gears are available form some of the ole time suppliers. Ford made them in standard and a couple of oversizes depending on the cam to crank spacing. The oversize was only a few thousandths. I put a NOS ford script aluminum press on gear in my 36LB. Price was about the same as the new bolt-ons. Try Barnfind for leads on this.

Re: Press on cam gear 48 teeth.
I do the same as Floyd, bought mine off of barnfind, nos, just run the common 22 tooth crank gear and it will be original. That gear set will go into any 1932-1948 V8 engine, [later models too, but the gears are cut opposite]

Re: Press on cam gear 48 teeth.
Obviously you guys are right, i guess it's not cam gears which is the biggest problem here, i guess my own gears are the ones that are jammed up. The bolt on gear with 48 teeth had me confused.
Thank you for clearing this up. |
