Default Model A's named after Females

I hear a lot of people refering to their Model A's as older women's names like Matilda, and Mabel and Bessy.

Are male names not acceptable ?

I've called my car quite a lot of different names, some good some bad. Ive heard of some male names for cars, but i guess men like to think of a car as a lady because its more appealing.

But the "official" name of the car is moon-pie, because that use to be my grandpas favorite cookie, and i guess after you buy so many of their products they end up sending you an official moon-pie license plate. So when he got the license plate, he put it on the car, and thats how it got its name.

Depending on how the old A runs, if it doesn't run, then it is called a womans name, it it runs, then it is called a mans name. Guess I am a bit male chauvinist?????

Maybe because Henry Ford referred to them as " Henry's Lady " !

I named my roadster, Sweet Caroline after the woman in the old Neil Diamond song. I never thought that I would ever find a roadster that I could afford. So like the song, at the time, good times never seemed so good!!!!!!!

I've also noticed that a lot of ladies name their cars male names.

Meet Gus, my ragged and rusty june 1929 tudor. It just looked like its name should be Gus.

Let's see....I'm a woman and my cars are named Evelyne, Rosie, Dee Dee, Bea, and Gypsy. Guess I'm a rebel since they are not male names. I do have a token male in the garage. His name is Peetie which is for Phone Truck. I almost named him TP for Telephone Truck but rethought TP for obvious reasons and changed it to Peetie.

My sport coupe is Gracie after my late mother in law, my 31 slant window is named joe after my later father inlaw. Joe is a bit crankier than Gracie so the name fits.

No offense to anyone intended, but I have never understood why people give cars gender based names..I just refer to the body style, the roadster, the mailtruck, the fordor.... I just don't get it!

Before Pat's onset of dementia, we tried for a name for my all black "30 coupe for months. Ah! playing with her Silkwood family tree, "MINERVA" popped up, PERFECT! In Roman Mythology, Minerva was the goddess of WAR & WISDON, figure that???
Barner from "down under" sent a pic of his 1912 Minerva, made in Belgium!!!
Searched for a "HANDLE" for my '29 coupe, using extra MINERVA letters stickers, concocted names--------"VERMIN" popped up---Perfect!!!---The bad ass Rat car! I put white rice on the rumble carpet & tell folks that a white RAT lives in the car. Maybe NO one will want to do the rumble thing! My prized Rat Terrier, Buster T. Brown, knows I'm lying, but he's sworn to secrecy!
Anyone needing a car name, I'm available! For an additional fee, I'll even concoct a most interesting & mind boggling history for your car! Bill W.

The model T was the "tin Lizzie" so it was natural when a smother car replaced it that people said "Henry made a lady out of Lizzie". I have a Mabel, Suzie and Betsy. No Sam... Wouldn't have a Willie or a Sam.

They're perfectly acceptable, given they're period appropriate. The parameters for naming your car are in the judging standards. Look them up and let us know what you think!
