I think it's time to build a flathead that makes acceptable power for a 75 MPH cruise i a 3800 lb car/truck and gets 30 MPG at a reasonable cost. My favorite engine is a 258 CI (3 5/16 x 3 3/4).EAB CAM & heads angle milled electronic dist and Holley 1 1/16 carb on stock intake. I don't think this can do it but it would be a start. I have Richard Kunc "Road rig" I could dust off the dust and it could moniker the engine under load while driving.

That would be a super neat venture! I think it would have to include a modern transmission to.

Back in the first gas crisis in the late 70's I made an adapter out of a base for a bumper jack to mount a 1 barrel VW carb on an olds v8 4barrel manifold. It ran ok, but mileage gained was minimal. I really didnt play with it much, just threw it off as a failure. Damn kids

The "first" gas crisis was probably in 1973 - gasoline went from $3 a barrel to $12, worse, there was an oil embargo by Opec. At the same time dollar devaluations made purchasing power decline rapidly.

39 cents a gallon. hahaha.

We need to stop printing money. It's bad enough with criminal cryptocurrency, the world criminal currency. Dollar dollar bling yo.

Things are going to get tight. Just history repeating itself. A shit war we are not wanting or directly in taking over a peaceful country (it is important to us), social media, and a virus (whatever you want to believe it was), has made humans crazy. But my opinion if we do nothing, it'll come. Not now, but not that far off. A guy that says I "only" can fix it, or it wouldn't happened if, worries me.

I feel bad for the russian poeple being turned into another north korean state. But it's how it is.

One thing we can do as average people is to make things better. Local, state, world. Start local work your way out.

Some might think why are we worried about another place in the world? It's called geo politics. Sitting back and saying why do we care? WW2 told us. Why we can go to walmart and get cheap stuff, global. Reason ford bought land in Brazil (rubber). Things change quickly, but we are a country of amazing people that can change to the situation quickly. It's our strength.

We have our mistakes, but we have also done amazing things.. Maybe the burden falls on us. Who else will do anything. Really if you think about it. Certainly if we don't support our friends. Which is all that matters.

Lot of nations have put their neck out on the line for what matters. Could get dicey, if we fold. Freedom is not free as they say. One country is saying it with their life.

Absolutely true ol' Ron! I watched a very good video with David Vizard, a highly respected engine builder/tuner. He emphasized the use use of vacuum advance on a street machine, using manifold pressure, NOT port vacuum. At light throttle cruising you want as much advance as you can get for fuel mileage and he showed the method to do this. You also have centrifigal advance for performance as the vacuum advance dissipates when you are on the gas.
Check it out on You Tube...

The Vizard book on tuning Holley carburetors is outstanding. It's also excerpted btw, quite extensively, much of it available online. If I were selling books I'm not sure I'd care for that, but in any case it is very useful for understanding engine tuning. The book is specific to Holley carburetors, but the general principles of setup and step by step adjustment apply to any. Most popular advice for tuning is geared towards drag racing, you don't have to sacrifice performance for efficiency or anything like that but tuning for good street manners is actually a bit more difficult.

There are about 4.5 ltrs in a Imp. gallon so that's about $9.00 gallon. Our dillusional PM has brought in carbon taxes and fuel conservation taxes (actually a second carbon tax) and it goes up yearly. Consider we have huge oil reserves and supply the US with 50% of their oil we get no breaks in Canada. I am in Florida untill the snow melts. The gas prices here today are about $4.00 a US gallon (about 3.9 litres). The worst is heating our homes with natural gas which is 80% of all households. These taxes are applied to this as well.
That makes me feel a little better. We to have lots of taxes on our gas. However our Government has removed some of the tax (25 cents per litre) for a 6 month period to ease the pain of skyrocketing gas prices. Only a spoil sport would suggest that this benevolent gesture is related to a recent poll that showed a marked fall in Govt popularity now below that of a pretty mediocre opposition party !!
