Radio
Hey guys, now that I'm cruising a bit a working radio would be nice. I've got the original giant tubed box removed and left the face on. Just wondering if anyone makes a modern conversion that uses the original face or one that looks like the original?

Re: Radio
Based on your Avatar, I would assume that you are referring to a '35-36 Ford Philco radio..
There are several vendors that make claims about being able to convert old radios to modern AM/FM, etc., receivers. The expense can be great, plus the added components take up a lot of space.. A neat little trick to gain some "tunes" etc., in a '35-37 Ford is to find a AM/FM radio that has conventional knobs for station selection, etc., in lieu of digital controls. Removing the knobs from the modern radio, with a little bit of work, the shafts from the original radio head can be adapted to fit where the radio knobs were.. The original radio head therein becomes a remote operational unit...Sometimes the connection can be a simple as using a section of plastic tubing to attach the cables to the radio shafts. Many years ago I had two friends that rigged their radios in the preceding fashion..

Re: Radio
Received back from http://turnswitch.com/, said nothing avail for '35 or any having similar radio. They gave a # of a co. That says they'll convert yours, but no go for '35 or similar. Here's their # If interested. I'm going with generic IPod. / Iphone hook up.

You could also hide the small book sized radio without using an empty box. Mine came with an ipod input. Is that what you want to do? |
