Default Drive Shaft ID Help Requested

Hi,

I have this drive shaft which I had originally bought thinking it might be for my Model AA truck, but it is much too big.

Can anyone give me some help identifying what it is for (I wrote the "BB" on it, but not sure that is right)?

Thanks,
Dave

Sure looks like BB, the AA is 1 1/4" and the BB is 1 3/8".

The original set up for the 30/31 AA truck had the male/female muff coupling . There was a male gear on the transmission output shaft . The intermediate shaft had a female gear end . This acted as an universal joint (sort of ) . The gear connection was prone to wear and would strip leading to no transmission at all . In late 31 Ford brought out a heavier intermediate shaft with a universal joint at each end with a special rear output bearing retainer . This new setup was fitted to the BB trucks as well . What you have is highly sought after as the original setup in the AA truck has a high failure rate .

From your pics it looks like you are missing the rear transmission bearing retainer (part no AA 7085 B). This is different from the pressed steel unit which goes with the muff coupling.

My Dad (John Charlton above) has these here in England, but Sammy Guthrie of Arizona Model A will have a used one in stock. Advertise this set up on the Ford AA Truck site on FaceBook. Your telephone will not stop ringing.

Thinking about it one U/J should be BB 7088 Front and BB 7090 B Rear . This is a two piece U/J two halves bolted together ( 6 wired bolts} You do not have the take apart style . This U/J allowed the intermediate shaft to be removed without pulling the rear axle back quicker clutch change . Hopefully Neil Wilson can tell you what variant you have .
