Unhappy Twolite Headlight Reflectors - Swap Meet

Learned a valuable lesson at a local swap meet Sunday... carefully look over everything you decide is what you think is what you're looking for...

I picked up a box with headlight reflectors that appeared to be one bulb reflectors for my '31 that had all of the silver gone (reflectors were a nice shiny brass color); to replace the (very) cheap repros I have...

I only looked closely at the first one in the box... quick glance at the second looked similar.

Turns out they were not a set. Not the same type and definitely not in the same condition.

The 'too good to be true' price should have set off alarms...

One has the channel for the lens gasket fully intact with "Top" stamped at the top and "Ford Twolite Reflector" stamped at the bottom in the trough of the channel.

The other has most of the outer edge of the channel gone, with portions of the trough intact , but no words of any kind stamped into it.

The socket 'passage' are of different construction between the two. Stamped version has a single slot; other has three slots...

Completely my error for not pulling both out of the box to look at - the one on top was the good condition, the one under the packing material was the bad one.

Opinions on whether thinking is these (or at least the one) could be an original with all the silver gone?

Mostly posted for the benefit of other 'newbies' to reinforce the 'buyer beware' doctrine...

Fred-

The email notice of your post showed your original reply...

I have cowl lights, so I'm looking for single socket/bulb reflectors... I forgot to mention that...

Hi
I have cowl lights and I enjoy using them as turn signals and using the parkiing (2 bulb) lights for night parades and such where they glow brightly without blinding the car ahead.

Don't feel too bad. You didn't loose much money and warned newbys to be careful at awap meets.

Did your wife find a flag holder for her roadster?

@Vern-

At the risk of a hand slap for double posting...

Found the pictured holder on the third table I came to...

The exact holder as pictured on the the car in 1992 in the original thread...

And at an extremely reasonable price (so much so, my wife wouldn't let me haggle with the seller at all...)

She's very happy - and when she's happy...
