Question Model B Front Cross Member Confussion

I have a '32 B pickup chassis number *B5093416* June 1932. The front cross member has been removed, repaired, and bolted back into the chassis. I'm not sure if its the correct one for my frame, I have looked at David G's V8 book and I am still confused. I need to replace the one that I have because of the extensive repairs. If someone could provide me with some information, pictures, etc. I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

How about starting with a photo of what you have as you indicate that you are not sure if it's the correct one for your frame?

It is a 32 crossmember but hard to see the problems from the pics you took. Are there fatigue cracks where the U bolts go thru? Close up shots would help.

Yup that's a 32 front cross member. If you are looking for a reproduction replacement part there are none. You will have to find a better used one or repair yours again.

What you have is correct for a June, 1932 chassis. As Dick says, find a better one or repair the one you have. They are quite repairable in the right hands and yours looks like a good candidate for repair.

Thanks! If you see my cross member up close I don't think you would think that it's a good canidate. It has been gas welded in numerous locations, and not very well in my opinion. Can you tell me about this cross member, my intention was to purchase it but it appears to be different. The center section between the engine mount depressions looks shallow compared to mine. Thanks in advance again!

The latest cross member picture is for a late year frame or factory service part, the diagonal holes indicate that it had the reinforcement plate to prevent the cross member from cracking at the u bolt mount. The difference in the rear is just a modification to allow the use of the alternative 32 engine, a SB chevy v8. All in all, any experienced welder can fix yours right up.

The modification to that cross member that Dick addresses seriously weakens the structural integrity of the cross member.

David and Dick thank you very much! Your insight is very much appreciated. It looks like I'm going to repair what I have.
