Default Daytona carburetor float valves

Any one here have any experience with the Daytona Carburetor float valves in a "94" carb ? I am wondering if the actually work better than a regular needle and seat. any info and/ or opinions would be appreciated. I am having trouble with the fuel level in 2 of my carbs, especially the rear one. seems no matter where I set the float it ends up flooding , filling the fuel bowl soaking the top gasket and leaking out the venturi's . I even set the fuel press down as low as 1.5 psi. I also noticed that sometimes after the eng. has been shut down, the fuel press gauge shows that the fuel press. will increase from say 2.5psi to as much as 4.0 psi. no matter if the eng. is warm, or cold. whether it hasrun 30 min. or 2 min. any thoughts? running a mechanical fuel pump on a Y- block ford. Edelbrock 3x2 with 3 '94' carbs progressive linkage. Thanks,--- Jim.

Hi Jim,

You probably already know, but that seems like an unusual problem. The Daytona float valves are good and actually require less float drop than the conventional needle valves.
I'm assuming you have the original type needle valves now. With those, if the float drop is too much, and the needle fit is a little sloppy, the needle can cock/jam and not seat. But that would cause massive flooding, and it's odd two of the three carbs are doing this. Just make sure the fuel valve seats are snugged down with a good gasket.
Only other thing I can think of is the fuel bowl vent being plugged with an insect or mudd dobber. When I worked at Zenith Carburetor in Detroit we were flowing some carbs that didn't have the bowl vent holes drilled out, and every one flooded. I highly doubt this is your problem, but threw it out as a possibility. Odd for two carbs to have a problem like that. Wish I was there to help.

Hi Sal, yes this is a strange problem that arose last fall after changing the intake on my y-block from an Offenhouser to an Edelbrock. I also changed the carbs. the center carb is, I think, off a 55-56 truck. Think it is an EGC-6 with a modified air horn. this carb seems to run pretty good. the 2 end carbs are 8ba's and are a combination of the carbs I had been using, and a different set of throttle blade housings. I am pretty sure that the vents are clear, but will check them. I am going to start back on the carbs next week and see what I can find. been working on the '51 Merc. off and on for the last couple of months with the o/d trans. It is not going smooth. oh well. Thanks for your info. It is appreciated.--- Jim
