Can't Get Front Motor Mount Springs In
So I unbolted the front engine mount yoke in preparation for replacing the front engine mount springs... I was only able to jack the engine up about an inch (before the whole car started to come up) which wasn't enough clearance to get the yoke out of the car. The protruding stud out the bottom of the yoke was too long to get it to totally clear the hole it is in. Needless to say, I was unable to replace the two mount springs. Only the bottom spring was replaced (there was no bottom stud spring on my car). Any tips???
My car has the original springs. Odly enough, I have reduced my clutch chatter with even only replacing the single stud spring.

You can unbolt the yoke at the block and that should give you some room to play!

The yoke was completely unbolted...from both the engine as well as the bottom. I was able to tilt the yoke forward but with the bottom stud still in the hole (and the engine unable to tilt more than an inch or so) the yoke hangs up on the crank pulley shaft and pulley.

Remove the two bottom bolts from the rear motor mounts before you jack the engine

Sorry, I reread you note and I see you already did that. Is there enough room to slide the springs in one side at a time? I think I have seen a rubber spacer setup that takes the place of the springs. Maybe those would be easier to deal with?

Also when you jack up the front of the engine watch that you don't bend the
throttle assembly when it hits the firewall. Bob |

If you don't take a bolt out of the rear mounts each side they can be damaged, keep that in mind when jacking up the front of the engine

Re: Can't Get Front Motor Mount Springs In
I take all 4 bolts out of the rear mounts, remove the accelerator linkage from rear of engine, remove the exhaust clamp at the manifold, remove the gas line, radiator hoses if still connected, and rods to spark lever and accelerator, check for binding of brake and clutch pedals and linkage rods. I know this sounds overdone but it never hurts to prevent bending something with lifting the front of the engine. I also use a frame spreader with original mounts but not always needed if tilting up in front.
