Question Carb still stumbles

After my 47 v8 has set for several weeks it has started to stumble when I step on the gas. I recently went thru the carb and it had been running great. Then all of a sudden it started that old stumble/hesitating thing when you give it gas. I just replaced the accelerator pump but that didn.t help. It seems like when I'm under the hood pulling on the gas feed I can hear the carb or something else sucking air before it catches up. Also I can leave the choke pulled out just a tad and it works fine. Any ideas? Thanks

Even though you have replaced the accelerator pump, Have you looked down the carb (engine off) with a flashlight and pulled the throttle to see if it squirts? Do you have the pump rod in the middle hole? If so, I don't know why it would "stumble".

Sounds like you have an air leak some where.Closeing the choke slightly cuts down on the air being sucked into the carb throut canceling whats being sucked in through the leak somewhere else so it runs better?? Check all possible leak places could be a loose conection somewhere or a bad flex hose to pump or around carb base. ken ct.

If it had the problem and you cleaned the carb and it ran good then went back to the same problem I would suspect dirt AGAIN in one of the main jets. G.M.

Are you using any teflon tape any where at a gas line connection it could be a piece sucked in to the carb plugging it some where. ken ct. Put a inline filter before the carb or if your using a glass bowl FP put a paper filter in the bowl. Napa #3039. ken ct.

check the spring that goes on the accelerator between the plunger & the housing. thats what pushes the plunger down. the replacement ones are weaker then origanal ones. thus when you accelerate the pump is slugish going down its travel l have seen this maney times. a lot of the replacment parts are not as good as origanal

Thanks to all. No I have not looked down the carb but I will. I learned from ken.ct and others not to use telfon tape. Maybe be more dirt, the tank has not been replaced however I do have a filter before the elec pump and also the seditment bowl. Thanks for the NAPA number. I'll get one of them also. I really do believe in filters for everything.
