Default England calling

Hi, I am new to this site, so apologies if this is already covered somewhere
Just bought a UK built 1938 Ford 62 with a view to modifying and entering the 2016 Peking to Paris rally. This is about 12000km and a lot in desert and rough track. I have no experience of the suspension and shocks on this car and wonder if they need adapting for this drive. Is the system relatively strong . We plan to leave the rod brakes, but are looking at possibly adding a Telmet transmission possibly... Any thoughts ?
The car has been adapted already by some previous owner and has a French flathead v8 . We beleive the waterimps are a weakness , but otherwise OK.
So Many questions, hope someone can help
Richard

Are you based in the UK?
If so get in touch with Jim at Royal Kustoms http://www.royalkustoms.co.uk/
He is a flathead expert but operates an all round build/fabrication shop that helped prepare a 40 Ford for the peking to paris last year.

Welcome, All I can add is that FORD stands for 'Fantastic On Rough Dirt'! Dunno wot a Helmet transmission is, Irrespective, it will not be a direct bolt in with the torque tube. Keep your car relatively stock, it is built Ford Tough for rough roads as were common in the 30's, you might not be particularly competative, but you WILL have a blast!! Enjoy.
