Love it....I'm hoping the coil over set up will raise it up enough to clear the tires....my tires will be a lower profile that those but 15" still has a lot of tire

Why the 50 series tires? I think that a low profile tire looks out of place on these old vehicles. Why not consider a 75 series?

Re: Thinking about Fat tires on my 40 ford truck
Here is pic of a '40 I found online with fairly fat tires.
If you get Toooo fat of a tire, you will have to widen the rear fenders. maybe someone will Enlarge this pic

Re: Thinking about Fat tires on my 40 ford truck
Consider the rear axle and what it likes, unless your plans include a Ford 8 or 9 inch.
Stay away from a big offset to the outside that will put undo stress in the roller bearing on each side. We learned the hard way when we mounted a pair of Imperial wheels that we offset on my '40 (a long time ago)....the side view of the car looked great but the rear view showed both tires angled in at the top. I broke the drivers axle and and chewed up the race. Aesthetics....what looks good on low rider might not be the best choice else where....include a panard bar in your budget with coil overs or at least increase your life insurance. Charlie ny |

Re: Thinking about Fat tires on my 40 ford truck
My truck is a '38 1/2T but the rear fenders and box are the same as a '40 1/2T. I'm running a banjo rear end and 15"-7" rims. For rear tires I used 235/70's (custom offset) and there isn't much wiggle room.
Raising the body will probably only give you more room at the top of the tire. The width of the fender opening and the wheel offset will determine the max size. |
