13 Touring

Here are a couple of pictures of a friends touring car that I am working on. He bought it about 7 years ago from a gentleman that started working on it about 30 years ago and never finished it. He brought me the engine last year to check it out. It has been completely rebuilt. Rods, mains, bored, all new valve train, trans rebuilt, etc. Should be ready for a drive in the next week or two.

Man, it's great to see another one getting back on the road. Keep posting your success and let us know how things are going. Is the car originally from the Wahpeton area? Will it be at the Rollag farm show this fall? It "looks" like a true survivor.

Just finished rebuilding the transmission tonight. Hopefully I will get the engine installed this weekend. Now have all of the parts to finish the engine but still waiting for the new radiator, hood and tires. I will post some pictures later.

I don't know if it will make it to Rollag or not but I am sure the owner will let me take it if I ask. The car is not originally from Wahpeton but came from my hometown where I grew up. I have known about the car for years, the former owner was my schoolbus drive when I was growing up and was working on it then. Wish it was mine but a friend of mine got it and it has a very good home.

Rebuilt transmission


Did some easy work tonight after I finished the transmission. I installed the new coils. I know it is not the correct coil box. That will be corrected later.



At least the car came with good wheels.

Oh yeah the connecting rod is nothing more than you putting it far enough in front of the block to make it look really big. I've done that with fish a lot of times. I actually have the state record for a 17 lb 39 inch crappie. The wheels are nice. So, is your home town in MN or ND and are you one of those Souix hockey fans. I don't have much choice but to get excited about St Cloud. Never won a NCAA hockey title ever.

Looks like the brake drum is a cut down 26-27. Two things, polish the reverse and brake drum and check the reverse drum for cracks in the web. Looks like a great start.

Hometown is in Grand Forks county ND, 30 miles from UND and the Fighting Sioux. Never been a sports fan but UND has had a hell of a hockey team for a long time. As far as the Fighting Sioux name that discussion is something that is getting real old here in North Dakota. Time to get it settled.

By the way I installed the transmission on the engine tonight and got it set on the engine pan. Should get the engine installed in the car tomorrow.

I'm getting tired of the whole Fighting Souix thing too. Enough already. We use to go to the games in St Cloud and all the indians that were going to college at the U of M. They'd stand outside our arena, beat drums and harass us as we walked in the door. I hated it so much because of the way people felt so threatened. I know it had nothing to do with the people from North Dakota or the Souix Nation.

At any rate I like hockey, can you tell? I'm still in the process of putting my magnets on my flywheel. Then everything is going to go to my friends house up the road for balancing soon. He's got the knives and the cones and I'm hoping he'll let me use them and give me time to get it done and, oh yeah, give me a hand when I've got questions. I have a lot of help around here and it seems like all I have to do is ask. That's a good part of being a member in the Great Northern Model T Club. Along those same lines if you ever want to come down to one of our cruises or consider joining you'd be welcome. It's a good group. Many of us are retired and we've got professional mechanics, machinists, well drillers and barbers in the group. The majority of us live in The Northern part of Minnesota from St Cloud North. Some are from Brainerd, some from Remer and some from point's unknown. There's a chance you know our club President, Andy Loso, he sells Model T parts. And I suppose I've already stuck my foot in my mouth and I'm going to find out you're already a member.

At any rate good luck with getting the T running and keep us informed. -Mike

Started the T today. Got about 2 hours of running time on it. Runs great. Will try to post pictures and maybe a video of it later. Waiting for tires so I can go for a drive.

Nice looking brass T. I need to get one. I helped a guy restore a 1912 Commercial Roadster, the one with the mother-in-law seat. What a cool car, and he did a top notch job on it. The upholstery job was magnificent-black leather and you could drop a quarter on it and it would bounce back up. Love the oldsters!

Good job Pete. Looking forward to seeing the video. A couple hours of running time is pretty good. Nice little break-in to start with.

The video is not cooperating so the next best thing is some action shots. This is evidenced by the steam coming from the top of our temporary radiator and the blur of the rear wheels on jackstands.

I know the steering column and the coil box are incorrect. The column was one I had here with freed up control levers, the one for the car needs some work.





The new front tires showed up today. Hopefully the other 2 come soon.

The T hit the road today. Put about 15 miles on. Runs great.

Waiting for the new radiator and hood. Also need to install the rear fenders. As soon as I am done with all the mechanical work it is going somewhere else to get the body work done.

Got roughly 70 miles on the T. Runs great. Extremely happy with it.

I know this is not the place for it but we ended up with 2 sets of tires for this car due to a miscomunication. Looking to get rid of some tires. I do have an add in the swap meet section so you can get more info there.

The new radiator finally showed up today so I got to fit the hood and radiator. Went for a drive in 90 degree plus heat and it worked great.

Jesus Pete, that thing is really starting to look nice. Did you get the rear fenders mounted? I seriously need a brass T. It's not that I mind my cars but a brass touring would be great. Please keep us updated on this car as the time goes by.
