Coupe Quarter Window Molding
Does anyone have a picture of a coupe quarter window molding with glass installed, but prior to upholstery ?
I bought new fiberglass quarter window moldings and compared them to my father's coupe and I think they are different, but I can't really tell because his coupe is fully restored with upholstery. I don't think he'd like it if I started pulling it apart to look behind it Tommy- |

Re: Coupe Quarter Window Molding
I can get pictures of my coupe quarter moldings, but the upholstery is in. I will look through my photos to see if I took any before upholstery - if I have some, I will post them this evening.

Re: Coupe Quarter Window Molding
Both appear to be the same (IMO), and I put a slight ID mark when I took them out
to replace the glass, however, I doubt mine is an original, having little success in the ownership chain. |

Re: Coupe Quarter Window Molding
Thank you for the picture Kbinde2. That's exactly what I wanted to see.
The fiberglass molding that I got do not have holes or slots around the outside, No biggy. Another difference that I see is the radii forming the contour are smaller on the metal molding. I think these will work just fine, but may make the upholstery panel stick out a little bit if it doesn't fit snuggly into the radius. Thanks again, Tommy- |

Maybe I didn't search hard enough, but I couldn't find originals.

Re: Coupe Quarter Window Molding
These seem to be difficult parts to find. I called Berts and they only had 1 side.
He said that the fiberglass reproductions are usually pretty good, so i'll just stick with them. If it causes problems with the upholstery later, it will just be another lesson learned the hard way. I've had a bunch of them along the way, but still making progress Tommy- |

Re: Coupe Quarter Window Molding
This is where I was at a couple weeks ago. Working on putting the glass in, then the top.
It seems like everything I work on lately takes me 5 times longer than I expected. Except for the windshield. I thought I'd battle with that, but it went pretty easily. Tommy- |

Re: Coupe Quarter Window Molding
Just for information, the 1928-29 moldings are the same RH and LH, the 1930-31 are different RH and LH.

IIRC the top of the 1930-31 have a more complex curve than 1928-29. It would require significant effort to duplicate the contour. Most likely you would cut up a good original and end up with junk. For a top quality true restoration be patient and find an original. For a nice driver either be patient as above or go with fiberglass. As Steve Becker noted they do OK (and yes I am prejudiced, I will be laminating a pair of fiberglass ones today). |
