Default Run to the LSRU

I have a thread in the HAMB but I wanted to share this - for 5-6 hours today my roadster ran fantastic. Check out the pics ..

She was running 80+ mph for hours at a time with the vitals you see. I was running with ohv engines with way more HP than my stock 40 59ab - it was a good day for flatheads!

At hot idle after the 2500 rpm plus runs she was running 15-20 lbs of pressure ....

My real point in posting about the engine vitals is that this motor internally is all stock - no special cam, never been bored, just stock as Henry made it. You also have to remember the amount of weight it's carrying with all the extra parts, tools, floor jack and stands, extra fluids, luggage, etc, and it's even more amazing.

The big question or most asked question is how come she's not overheating and my response has been that I removed all all of the excess sand in the motor from the casting process - a gallon paint bucket of sand was what was collected with my shop vac, not including what was flushed out in-between .... that's the key imho ...

For those of us that are less informed. Using the 'Hamb' vernacular, what the hell is the "LSRU"?

Of course the removal of sand has something to with it but not having the engine enclosed and being air cooled has something to do with it.

You are absolutely right - it does. But the same engine in the same situation but not having dug out all the sand would not yield the same performance of the last couple days. What I was emphasizing was that for a guy like me running a flattie as hard as I do, removing the sand HAS to be done for it to perform as it has IMHO .... we can agree to disagree no problem

Been another good, hard running day. Was running 86 mph for some runs - vitals were just about the same - but ran ALL day 78+ mph.

Hope I don't reach 88 mph - my flux capacitor might send me Back to the Future!!! LOL!!!

I agree with the sand. I had a "rebuilt" never fired engine (all new machine work and expensive parts) that I bought and I didn't like the heads. I put it on a rotating stand, pulled the heads And found tons of caked sand inside. I fished around with coat hangars, brushes, compressed air and flash lights and got a coffee can out myself. Put all back together and my engine runs cool all day. I was really shocked how much sand was left in by a builder. Just hot tanking and doing machine work and bolting it back together is not enough. Needs to be "Rodded out" like the old radiators.

PS - congrats on the drive and see ya in Austin
