Re: new gas line
Mine is that way also. Just be for certain sure that the tube extends thru the ferrule before you tighten it down.

Re: new gas line
Make sure the line goes 1/8" beyond the ferrule, tighten it until it SNAPS, then tighten it some more, to squeeze the ferrule to the line.
It's QUITE EASY, just a new design, so you don't LOSE the danged FERRULE!! If you have trouble, just P.M. me & the Dog will walk you through it!! Bill Dogman

Re: new gas line
I first saw that design about 5 years ago, and I'm not too fond of it. I like the separate ferrule better. I always put oil on the ferrule and threads to help things slide better. As Bill said, it takes considerable pressure to snap the ferrule, so I like to do the initial snap by threading the fitting into cast iron if possible.

Re: new gas line
OK, what is the snap? Tight is tight but too tight is broken.

[QUOTE=joe plumber;1458243]This type of ferrule was been around for over 25 years in the P/Hvac trades, nothing new.Its the only way to go.The tube will only slide so far through the ferrule before it bottoms out against the fitting it tightens into.As you insert the male end into the female threads the tube will slide back to the proper length when the nut is tightened down.Once it has slid back hold the tube and secure the nut

Re: new gas line
ANY ferrule has to be squeezed tightly, INTO the line, like a wedding ring on a FAT Mans' finger!
If the end of a line & its' ferrule ever breaks off, you can make a temporary ferrule, with STRING! (ALWAYS carry string & baling wire) Bill Makeshift

Re: new gas line
The vendors sell the original separate ferrule design with a 9/16 wrench size fitting ('31 style, I believe). You can get the ferrules at most hardware stores.
