Pressure Sending Unit w/Full Flow
I had my machinist install Red's Headers Full flow filter system. The 2 hoses hook up to the block where the pressure sending unit was. Is using the plug on the side, just below the hose fittings the option for the sending unit? Will mounting it sideways effect it's ability function? So close to start it for the first time!

Re: Pressure Sending Unit w/Full Flow
If it’s just a plug, it should be ok, if it’s like the special plug used on the Canadian oil conversions, then taking it out would change oil flow. Best to ask machinist what style /type he used.

Re: Pressure Sending Unit w/Full Flow
MAKE SURE you know the OUT fitting and the IN fittings in the block. On all my flatheads with full flow filters, the oil from the pump comes out the boss where the sender originally was and goes back in the fitting closer to the centerline of the block on the bellhousing.
I know of 1 newly rebuilt engine where the lines to the filter were hooked up backwards and the engine ran for about 20 minutes before it seized. The oil pressure gauge showed pressure alright but no oil was getting back into the engine. |

Re: Pressure Sending Unit w/Full Flow
As the boss is where the sender was originally, then in and out should be like yours deuce_roadster, correct? The plug is a standard 3/8 NPT, so to put the sender back will take an adapter, if that is where it should go. The thread was very helpful. I sent an email to Red's for some input. Will let you know what I find out. Thanks for all the good info.

Re: Pressure Sending Unit w/Full Flow
There should be no problem putting the pressure sending unit on the horizontal plug location - it could be a 1/4" NPT or 3/8" NPT - can't quite tell. The out port should be the one closest to the pipe plug - with a passage straight down into the pump oil galley.

Re: Pressure Sending Unit w/Full Flow
Pull that horizontal plug out and you can put a tool of some sort in that port and feel for the vertical port next to it. If it's open, your good to go. The full flow mod generally calls for a plug in the passage beyond that vertical one so that the oil doesn't bypass the filter. The instructions for the kit usually show the internal porting for this mod.

Re: Pressure Sending Unit w/Full Flow
I would put a tee in the port closest to the center of the block and put your sender in there. I prefer reading the pressure after the filter.
