Default 52-53 Hood Bolts

No, I didn't get the 53 Merc running yet. One of my nephews (tgoff375 on youtube) stopped by today and helped me do a hood switch installing the straight 53 Merc parts car hood on the 52 driver. So I can work on straightening out the badly dented 52 hood at my leisure. It was a heavy job that I would never have accomplished myself. My question, there were flat thin washers under the hood bolts and I don't know for sure where they belong. Right under the head of the bolts? Between the hinge and the bolt?

The 52-56 (and maybe later) used a shoulder bolt to attached the arms to the hood. They also used "wave" washers to take up the slack on the shoulder. I assume the Merc's were the same (at least the 52-54's)

The washer wave went between the arms and the hood on my 54 Ford

Yes, both the 52 and 53 have the shoulder bolts that hold the hood to hinges. Just flat washers though. I'm betting they probably go between the hinge and hood.

Their called warped washers and go between the bolt head and the hinge arms to keep them from rattling. If they are put between the hinge and the hood, they may not get over the shoulder of the bolt.

Then maybe these are not the right washers. They are flat and resemble the brass washers found on brake banjo fittings.
