Default 4 speed -68 Mustang questions

#1 The hole in the top of my shifter boot will never fit over the 2 horizontal levers on the gear shift shaft. How to install please.

#2 Does anyone have a part number for the chrome (?) surround that goes over the rubber boot to hold it down. Mine is @ 4 3/4" but the rubber boot base is over 5 1/4" Do I have the wrong parts?

Is the 4S shifter OEM (F/4/S) or HURST?

Is the 2nd lever reverse lockout?

Can you post a photo?

Get the rubber quite warm, use a little soapy water, place one of the levers through the hole. Make sure the levers are in the up position, slide opening over the threaded end then stretch it over the remaining lever.

I tries a similar suggestion once before by leaving the rubber in the sun to gwt warm.
No luck. But I will try it again. Maybe microwave first

The T shape shifters were on 64 to 67 cars, in 68 they went to a full round that you pull up. I have gotten original boots on with just warming them and a little silicon lube. The repro's I have not had good luck on, they seem to tear trying to stretch them that far.

There is a set screw that releases the "T" from the shaft like this?

I guess mine is an earlier version as it has a knob - not a T handle.
This powertrain is installed in a 1969 Italia Intermeccanica so it could be
from an earlier Mustang.
Thanks all. I will keep trying.

Can you stretch the hole enough to get it over the horizontal bars one at a time?

I am still trying to figure out what he has. You ask a question and he never gets back.

Question Re: 4 speed -68 Mustang questions

Or, I could be getting it confused with the AT shifter post.

Been getting a little foggy as of late ...
