Default 1965 Thunderbird console texture

I have a 65 t-bird interior in a Kustom. The console appears to be leather covered, but it isn't material, it is like molded with a leather grain type finish.

Any ideas on how to replicate it?

Looks up restoring 54-66 Ford Mustang doors, they have a similar wrinkle finish that sounds out too easily.
It might be first you get a type or wrinkle finish paint and then then color you want.

The other way might be to use a vinyl that has a color and texture you want. glue it down.

I have a '65 T-Bird and I know what you're talking about. When freshening up some interior surfaces I pondered filling in some holes drilled in the lower passenger side dash, which has a similar kind of textured finish. I decided not to do it because it would've been too difficult to match the texture of the filled in holes with the rest of the dash.

My research indicated some people take a mold of the existing texture and use it on the filled surface, but I don't remember the particulars. It seemed like a long shot so I didn't do it.

Two places to investigate further, if you haven't already:

- The VTCI '64-'66 forum.

- Pat Wilson Thunderbird.

Google and you should find both of them.

It’s a long reach with an old memory, but I had either a top repair kit or a vinyl seat repair kit that did that. Had something you brushed on a good part and pulled a pattern for the repair area. I don’t recall it working that well, but YRMV.
