Banjo rear brake seal
Is there any way to remove the rear brake drum seal without damage to it? I already have new seals installed but want to remove bearing.

Re: Banjo rear brake seal
Since you have new seals, you can probably get them removed without bending them. I would try to get them out using a wood dowel inserted from the outboard side. Tap lightly and alternate were you do so. Starting at postion "0", tap lightly then go to the 180° position etc.
Seal removal tools could very likely deform the seal lip retaining metal. |

Re: Banjo rear brake seal
There is also a seal on the inside of the axle housing out near the end that can only be changed with the housing off the banjo. This is what keeps gear oil off your brake shoes. My 1st car (30 model A) at age 12, I thought the gear oil was for the wheel bearings!

Re: Banjo rear brake seal
thank you.I slid in a 3/16 rod with a slight bend and semi point, I drove against the bearing lip, not the seal. Used different spots, like 12:00 , 3:00, 6 and so on. I then was able to put the drum between centers and indicate in how round the brake shoe surface is. Saved and reinstalled the seal.

Re: Banjo rear brake seal
There is such a thing as a seal that replaces the inside seal,
it's installed from the outside. The ones I have are made by National seals. - Not for sale- This would save one from axle disassembly. Karl |
