Default M&S Shocks

Has anyone used m&s shocks? Just checked my shocks and none are working. Wondering which ones to get. What would you recommend?

I put shocks from M&S on 2 of my Model As many years ago and they're still working fine.

They were good a few years ago but have had quality control problems. They have a new manager that was unaware of the problem. I sent two sets back. Ron W

I have a set of M&S shocks on my huckster. Put them on a couple of years ago and they seem to work fine. But I am no expert on this subject. The only thing I know is that with them on, the rig handles a lot better than without them.

I used them on all of my "A's [5] since 1978 [original covers with his base and guts] . Only had 1 drip some oil . i sent 1 original shock for a trial run to APPLE HYDRAULICS to compare ....My butt still hurts from the price... $160.00 and he cranked the cover on where i don't think it will ever come off. [metal to metal without seeing the white gasket. I have heard that Stipes are super as a NEW SHOCK.I had a friend of mine buy a set for his 1929 coupe... NO Problem at all .If you have the buck go that way...

I had M&S rebuild 4 shocks for me. Even after taking some of them back I still have leaks. Robert Paul did my next 4 and none of them leak.

I would by far recommend the new shocks from Bill Stipe [ Macs and Brattons also sell them].

I have had nothing but trouble with M&S shocks, I would not buy them again. I installed 3 sets on my cars years ago and they were fine. Now 10 years later they leak and most of them come back with the shaft broken, with the shock arm just hanging.

Hey thanks everyone for your thoughts. This would be so easy if the cost were the same. I am glad that some of you were happy with M&S. I think I will give them a call and ask some questions about their new shocks.

I have a set of unknown shocks that came on my car 7 year ago. How do you check to see if they are working OK.

I just loosened the shock links and pulled out the shock arms. At this point you can just move the arms up and down to feel the resistance. In my case there was none even after adding fluid.

If the originals are 'workable' then I've had good luck with Apple Hydraulics on Long Island, but, they are expensive.
As said, the Stipes work well.
The 'oil-less' $700 units are junk !
