Need specifications on a 1931 wide bed box
I have a 31 wide bed box thats in need of restoration...the sides and ends are in pretty good shape but bed metal and wooden subfloor are pretty rough...cant seem to find any info on rebuilding the 31 box...measurements of wood as well as sills and the metal floor itself..hard to tell til after sandblasting if bed metal bolts in or welded in originally.Seems that here at the barn(so far) or over the internet the info is nonexistant tho theres a fair amount to be found for narrow bed rebuilds.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Need specifications on a 1931 wide bed box
I have the remains of the bed wood from the restoration of my wide bed. It's been stored outside but may still be OK to take measurements. Would that help? I just hope the people cleaning up my yard didn't dispose of it thinking it was just old wood. If it's gone I can measure what's on the restored truck.
I believe I bought a new set of bed wood. I didn't hear any #@$%^&*()* words from the restoration shop so assume it fit well. Barb Birt |

Re: Need specifications on a 1931 wide bed box
I have a drawing that I did of the sills which go between the frame and the bed. Also, have the old wood pieces which go under the metal floor of the bed but haven't measured and drawn them . I can send you drawings of both if you want.

Re: Need specifications on a 1931 wide bed box
Thanx for the reply Barb...any dimensions you can provide would be helpful...took a closer look at the box yesterday and see the metal of the bed floor was originally riveted in so I have a lot of rivets to take out!Ford sure was big on using rivets on these A's.Once I get that rotten metal out maybe I can get some perspective on the rotted wood subfloor..Best I can tell the sills are in fairly good shape but of course would be best to have a clean start from bottom up so that's the game plan at this time.Am considering doing the rebuild to look more like the floor of a narrow bed.Not concerned with judging standards at this time..especially since the wide bed I have was mounted on my 29 CCPU so I'm just going for good looks and functionality on this truck.Gonna be a driver not a show car anyway.Thanx again for the offer.
