Default Help, Please.

Is there someone that lives close by in Iowa that can come and drive my '26 Roadster and tell me what might be wrong with it? I would also benefit from being able to ride in one and see how it performs. Mine seems to shift into high terribly bad. It shakes when it does so and has no power at first. I have not joined a Model T Club and I know that would be best, but with my schedule I could never be involved with one. I just want to either experience a proper running T or have someone experience the way mine acts. I would be able to cover gas money and buy lunch. If interested, please let me know.

You may not be running it fast enough in low before shifting into high for it to recover quickly. Also you need to close the throttle between shifts just like any other car. I'm sure someone will come to your aid.

Yes--what J Franklin said. Speed it up a little. A a new model T driver you may be being too cautious. Model T's generally don't shift real smoothly but you can improve it somewhat as you get used to it.

You are about 100 miles from
Dean Yoder in Iowa City but
you would have to bring your
Model T to him.

I e been on the fence about this. I’ve heard that I should be shifting into high before I get across the intersection. In other words, just get it rolling and then shift. How fast in low, then? I could definitely try this.

Low till it is screaming, back off throttle and lift your foot, now apply throttle as a normal shift.

I do shut the gas off (throttle it down) and sometimes even the spark. I think my problem is that I'm shifting too soon. Next time I'm out I'll try that. Maybe the clutch also needs adjusting?
