Transmission bearings .. sealed or unsealed?
Any consensus on longevity of input/main drive bearings ( A 7025 and 7065)? Sealed? Unsealed? One side sealed? If single seal whether best to have the seal on the trans (or as per Vince Falter) on the UJ side?

One seal, away from the lubricant

Re: Transmission bearings .. sealed or unsealed?
I have heard you can remove the seal on one side without hurting the unit, and causing the other side to leak. Any thoughts?

Re: Transmission bearings .. sealed or unsealed?
One can remove one of the seals and it will not affect the seal on the other side. Bearings are sold with 1 seal or 2 seals or no seals. They are also sold with or without shields which look like a seal but are not.

is there a recommended way of removing one of the seals to avoid co-lateral damage?

Re: Transmission bearings .. sealed or unsealed?
Agree with the above comments but would advise to not get Chinese made bearings US bearings are more costly but better quality. No fun pulling a trans out to replace a faulty bearing

If you can find, locate&source these following brands: BCA, FAFNIR, FEDERAL, HYATT, L&S ,
Use a dental pick/scribe or " o ring" pick or flat blade screw driver to remove the seal. |

Re: Transmission bearings .. sealed or unsealed?
The open side is always fitted/installed so as that's lubricated by the transmission/engine oil,
The sealed/sheilded side is to prevent foreign matter/objects entering through the bearing into the transmission. |

Re: Transmission bearings .. sealed or unsealed?
I’ve not heard “long term results” but I’d suggest following the article below if you have questions during your rebuild. Tom’s work truly enables this work for many.

I’ve also had great success with Chinese bearings, but they’ve always been properly greased and torqued. |

Lack of lubrication can be a thing with Chinese sealed bearings.
