What is this collar for?

I can't figure out what the purpose of this collar on the starter rod is? Is it some sort of stop? Has a allen head set screw. Haven't seen it on other cars.

Is there a hole drilled to accommodate the set screw through to the starter rod shaft? If so perhaps the shaft is not threaded, and it was a farmers fix to retain the starter rod.

Or "to facilitate the next garage fire"��

It looks smaller than a water pump shaft collar. Maybe they jist thought it looked purty .

It's a starter rod vibration damper.

That is a very rare accessory item for model A's.
It is a cardinal grammeter and it is used to bleed off the excess inverse reactive current from the starter.

No the starter rod is threaded. In fact I was removing the starter rod t replace the starter rod grommet when I noticed it. The set screw is just holding it in place.

I guess it could be any of the above, haha. So basically I don't need it... Another mystery solved.

If it is it doesn't work. The starter rod was rattling because the grommet was MIA.

Maybe it adds weight to the starter rod so his wife did not have to push so hard to get it started.

How about maybe the rod would unscrew so the person put that on to keep it from unscrewing.

Looks like this guy has lots ideas. Look at the double nuts on the starter cable. When things get just right, I think it could make a nice fire when that collar hits that big nut.

I bet the rest of the cars has some nice improvements also.

I wonder if the collar was put there to make it easier starting/turn-over the motor from inside the engine compartment. You could wrap your fingers around the collar a lot easier than just the rod itself.

Just thinking! (Which sometimes can be dangerous.)
