Default I do appreciate the help.............

learned a lot, a lot more than what I knew a few weeks ago both here and behind the scenes. It has become a bit apprehensive to ask for info or clarification on subjects that are no doubt a bit controversial where there are different views. I think it best not to ask but to just read here and there.

Cheers

Ed,

You need not be apprehensive; you're a new owner with a lot of enthusiasm and that's just fine. It's a given that anyone new to anything will ask questions that some have asked before --I've surely done so as an 8 month owner. I try to read or search out as best I can but one thing I've discovered is that as owners are different, our cars over 83+ years had several owners and changes over those years resulting in cars that not the same either... so asking a lot of questions is a given.

Keep on Asking,

Ed, don't worry about what you post. Go for whatever you want to know something about. It gives us old guys something to do when we sit around our computers and have nothing to do. Yes you do get some very caustic remarks being critical of a simple question but who cares. You also get some very worthwhile comments that are not written in the many books available for Model A's. So ask away and let the comments flow!

The only dumb question is the one you are afraid to ask.
I have worked on cars most of my life, I too am new to the Model A, loving every question and answer. Ask away

Ed, being a relatively new guy myself, I can relate to what your saying. Some guys chastise you because they feel you're not doing any research.

I learn from reading other's questions and answers though so please continue to ask. Maybe you'll ask a question I have not thought of? Or about something I'm not interested in at the moment but probably will be down the road. Then we'll both learn...

I've been in the car hobby for ~50 years, mostly 50-60's cars, but this is my first A and I'll tell you they are different in a lot of ways.

Ed, stick around. A lot of good info on here and after a while you will learn who to listen to and who to skip over. Some people communicate a little differently sometimes. But you seem to have a good sense of humor and as far as I am concerned, that is a necessity. Good luck.

Ed -
Pls don't go dark just because of a couple of snappy answers. Thought the seat belt thread you started was important after that terrible crash in Texas. I read all the pros and cons and appreciated hearing the thinking behind choices people make.

Other posts of yours have made me LOL. Great sense of humor!

I'm a Newbie. Have found this site really helpful. Need you to keep asking questions - even "controversial" ones - so we all can continue to learn from the gurus.

I'm still very much here..............parts came in early for Sarah and I've been playing mechanical genius.

Wolf whistle is gone and ready to ship out to someone who needs it more than me to flatter the ladies...I don't need anything to do that.

Sarah's new look:

Remember how she use to look when she arrived?

While I was at it, Brent had mentioned how much he like the whitewalls so I took some time and gave them a clean so he could really admire them!!!!!!!!!!!

And I'd like to say, I found a way, which most here I'm sure already knew and waited for me to find out accidentally, the spare tire lug nut bolts tap right out leaving a free unobstructed removal from the tire well.

More parts are due in tomorrow that will help me hone in on my mechanical skills and..................I found mechanic who's dying to do some work on an A, he mostly has done muscle cars and he has a shop.

and.............someone sent me a PM saying he/she was Santa and that he/she will be bringing Sarah some seatbelts. Isn't life great????????????

Cheers..............

Looks good, Ed. Not knocking your car but looks like the PO could have done a better job of masking off items before painting the fire wall. Appears he even painted the coil wire and junction box??

That's an understatement, hard telling the reason why it was done like that..............it's on my list to redo the junction box and a few other items too

Thanks again....no recommendation goes without consideration, some of it's common sense, some is personal preference....all is heeded.

Ed, it looks like you pulled the air filter off her too, I did the same thing with Sister and she seems to run way better, even sounds better....what are your thoughts since pulling it off?

I hadn't drove Sarah but once when I test drove her before removing the filter, so I can't really comment on performance. What really made me remove the Maze filter was the fear of burning alive, after I'm dead and gone, it won't matter then.

Nice looking motor area Ed. Glad to see you replaced the old iron gas filter. I to did this and it sure gives me a better idea if stuff in coming out of the gas tank to the carb. I know replacing the iron filter is a no-no but mine is a driver and I want it to run!

Ahoy! Ed looks great! My Model A came without an air filter... That's a personal choice of each owner depending upon the roads and dirt they drive on as well as some prefer not having paper and gasoline (If you flood your car) next to a 450F exhaust pipe.. Things to think about either way..

Can't figure out what the line is coming out the firewall and going back under the body. It looks like it may be real close to the motor mount, if not wearing against it.

Yes, speedo cable. The cable housing does rest against the motor mount but it's not forced up against it.

there should be a grommett in the hole at the firewall plus a support clip on the frame rail along with another clip mounted inside the firewall behind the gas tank

Got the grommet but no bracket on the frame. I'll check for the clip when it get daylight. I'll put the bracket on my next order.

Thanks Mitch.

Page 83, Les Pearson book tells about the routing. I do have the clip attached to the inside firewall. I will have a closer look later today. Got chores.

Don't know about that but for sure, Sarah is more pretty at 83 than Miss Crabtree is at 83. But she was a doll when she was my teacher in the fifth grade....what a babe!!!!!

I'm learning exactly what I came here to learn and to meet like minded people........the only improvement to the forum I could suggest is....more single ladies to chat up!!!! To some, maybe my post count is over the moon for only being here a month but just think what it would be with some ladies about!!!!!

I am pretty new here also-purchased my first Model A at the end of this past summer. I've been a car guy since I was a toddler, but never had a vintage car with even an engine in the front or a radiator before, so had a lot to learn when buying this. There were some VERY trying times with this car at the beginning, but thanks in LARGE part to the kind and patient folks on here, I now have an 83 year old car that is fun and reliable, fighting the urban grind out with the newest cars and attracting a lot more attention while doing so! I felt a little apprehensive myself, posting questions that I knew were probably somewhere on here already, knowing that I would be outing myself as a newbie, etc. But you know what? Everyone here was very helpful, offering ideas and suggestions, that led me to my car becoming enjoyable. I even trust my car now! For a while there, I was convinced I needed to tie a rope the back bumper, and leave the other end at home, so my wife could pull me back when this thing quit.

I admit that I do feel a little guilt, not being knowledgeable enough to answer many questions to those in need, but I'll get there.

I'm in the same boat as you. I can't give much advice concerning As. I'll never get....there. I suffer with the Baby Boomer Syndrome. I have the Mother of All short term memory losses so what I learned yesterday is now in my save file to re-read when needed if and when I remember I have saved answers to questions I've asked before.
