Re: arturos 36
elturo, I'm running a 4" dropped Superbell axle with four leafs removed from the original spring. I also have 6.00 X 16" bias plys. I had to tinker with the steering a bit because of interference with the frame. The clearance is about 3/4 of an inch while turning between the tire & fender, but I never bottomed out or rubbed and the ride is awesome.
Take some time to look into a flatty motor. At the shows, it's always got a crowd around it, you can get some descent power out one and nothing sounds as cool as a flathead! Built right they run great!! Let me know if you need any pictures. Joe |

Re: arturos 36
@jrvaariel48 - not sure the difference between superbell and magnum axles if there is any. I looked into some 6.00x16's and found these that I like. Of course they're not 36. What are the stock options for stock 16s?
As for the flatty. I'm one of those guys crowding around the cars that have them. I've just always have heard they cost twice as much to go twice as slow.. no offense to anyone. Your are 100% correct. Nothing sounds like them. Pictures are always appreciated it. Thanks Joe!! |

Re: arturos 36
Back to focusing on my 36 ! Took my 1st baby step this weekend and pulled the front axle out from under the car. I plan to drop the axle 3-4". I will be running 16" bias all the way around. 40 Lincoln brakes up front. That's the plan today.

Re: arturos 36
Might I suggest Okie Joe's for the dropped axle work, I like him and his axles!

No way I'm running sealed beams! Yanked them too. I'm working on another head light trim ring and lens. I only had one.

Re: arturos 36
Sid and Joe work together (somewhat). Joe does the earlier axles and Sid the later ones, but think you can get them from them both. I drive down to Joes to pick mine up!

Re: arturos 36
an idea if you want to run the original wide 5 wheels....not sure how these mount, but they allow discs and the original style wheels....Mike

Re: arturos 36
Mike, That's great info on the wide 5's. I just may need that. I plan to run skirts in the rear and a flipper hub cap up front. I'm thinking the flipper cap may require a plain steel wheel. I'm not sure? However, If the W5 is available, I'm not opposed. I plan to run black walls, not wide whites.

Re: arturos 36
saw them on a '32 with the wide 5 wheels....no hubcaps, so i could see the name.....and disc brakes on all four corners.....not sure what is necessary to axles to make it work, but will definitely help the stopping....lol....have fun....Mike

Re: arturos 36
Mike ! I like the wide 5. Even like the spokes. I can't do the disc brakes- I'll get kicked off this forum. It's already a tough crowd !!

Re: arturos 36
Yep, better tread light! On a more serious note, this is a traditional Ford site. A lot of us are into high performance and traditional Hot Rods, but the site is for flathead v8s. You will get inputs off the main site focus because a lot of us have interest in cars in general beyond flathead Fords but don't expect it to go to far afield!

Re: arturos 36
X2 on Okie Joe. I am running two of his axles. And not sure but it looks like your front brake hoses are pointing toward the front. Perhaps the wheel cylinders were installed on the wrong side. I have only seen them pointing to the rear. Just a thought. Possibly my eye sight also. I like that 36.

Re: arturos 36
It is hard to tell from the posted photos, but it may be one of the straight out styles.
