Default Ford Drums

I want to buy a set of Ford drums from this gentleman. The part # on them is
21A-1125. Does anyone know what they came off of? The closest I came to figuring it out was 21A-1105 front 40 Ford
21A-1115 rear 40 Ford

Anyone?

Thanks.

21A 1105 A Front & 21A 1115 A is what I get and nothing for the base number 1125. Is it possible someone is misreading the number?

As Bruce points out below, these numbers are for the Hub/Drum assy, that is the only way they are listed (that I can find).

Ford drums are unmarked, as far as I've noticed, but hubs frequently have their number forged into them. The hub number would be unlisted on early V8's because you could not purchase a drum or hub as a separate part...the part # in the book is an assembly number for a part that consists of hub, drum, and a handful of studs. Many Ford parts are thus... Model A and V8 trans cases, for instance, have different numbers because the A is solely a trans case, the V8 one is a trans case plus the two bushings for the clutch shaft... hence an assembly, with a number that is off a bit both from ather bare cases and from its own bare case number that is cast into it.

........except that 21A generally denotes 1942 FIRST year of issue.

The 1940 Ford (and '41) would have had an 01A prefix in the case of drum/hub assys. DD

Yep, not sure what that is about, replacement part? The Green Book list 78-1115-C for 36-39 then skips to 21A-1115-A for 40-48. For the front it goes 68-1105-A2 for 36 and then jumps to 51A-1105-A for 40-48 and then 21A-1105-A as a replacement for the 51A and changes the years to 40-45. No idea what all that is about, drums are an item the wear out fairly quickly, maybe a lot of updates over the years?

I think I found the answer. It looks like a Van Pelt repro part #. I'm calling them tomorrow to be 100% positive. Info to follow. Thanks for the responses.

The 21A drum (which is a drum only) does fit back to 1940 and up to 1942 models. Typical for Ford numbering, they apparently made some updates/changes to the drum several times but the new part would be sold as a service replacement for the previous 1940 and 41 models.

We still have some 21A drums left. Studs for these are available from another source.
