Does anyone make a decent quality amp meter. Chinese needle fell of the pivots just from turning over the dash to bent the mounting tabs. I am thinking of going digital. I will try to repair it?

I got lucky and found a nice used "Made in USA" ammeter online that worked perfectly. Think I paid $25 for it. The Chinese repop that was in my car failed during shipping the car 600 miles causing a no-start when it arrived. I had to call for a roll off since the tractor trailer couldn't get to my house. While I was waiting to find a god used American made ammeter I just connected the two leads together with a stove bolt and covered it in rubber.

Snyder's reported they were trying to obtain good ones a few years back after I asked .... you may want to follow up on same ....... not everything is easy.

An original meter is about your only choice pricewise, right now.
If you can put up with a non standard "look" in favor of high quality, there are many choices.
A quality precision D'arsonval movement type meter with an external shunt can be had at many meter supply companies. Some are still available at surplus stores.
A few years ago I found one surplus that fit right in the original hole and read amps normally. There was a very small button at the bottom of the meter that when pushed, the meter read the battery voltage.
Most all high quality meters have external shunts so if you get one be sure the shunt comes with it. It is useless and will release all of it's smoke without it.

You might also search "ammeters" as people use different spellings. I had a similar problem (poor quality repro units) and solved it by buying an original that I refurbished and had the added benefit of learning about them in the process.
