brake light switch
Does any one have the part number for the Harley Davidson hydraulic brake light switch. I think this switch is for use with dot 5 fluid. The new one I purchased from the old Ford supplier only lasted two years. Thanks in advance for the help. Frank pkny

Re: brake light switch
I searched the old posts and it was recomended that I use one from Ron Francis. The order taker [a very pleasant lady] said that they reenginered the switch to take silicone fluid dot 5 and have no reported problems. I orded one , not cheap $38.00. Will give it a try. Thanks Frank pkny

I've been using a US made HD switch in DOT 3 for about 8 years now with excellent results. |

Re: brake light switch
I've been using a Ron Francis switch for a couple of years and it works great. It costs more but I think it is worth it. It doesn't require as much pressure for it to light up the brake lights either.

Re: brake light switch
I am using dot 5 brake fluid and the standard replacement brake light switch only lasted the first driving season. Went to the Harley Davidson type but it did not last as long as the original type. I have had the Ron Francis one that is supposedly made for silicone brake fluid for three years now,so far so good.

Re: brake light switch
I realize you are asking about the HD switch but hope you don't mind me providing another thumbs-up for the Ron Francis switch. Although a bit pricey, it works great! The slightest peddle pressure activates the lights and considering the way people like to drive close to your bumper, the sooner-the better. Steve.

Re: brake light switch
I agree with flatmotor, i use the lever type switch on all my cars. They are inexpensive and you can easily mount them to the bottom of the floorboard. Never had one fail. I hate to say it but they were commonly used on older Chevy pickups.

Re: brake light switch
Took a bit of effort to find the Ron Francis switch but here it is for $28.95: http://www.ronfrancis.com/prodinfo.asp?number=SW%2D32
Here's the cheapest Harley Davidson one for $10.77 if you prefer that one: http://compare.ebay.com/like/2306891..._lwgsi=y&cbt=y
