1940 gravel shield
My ‘40 convertible is in the restoration shop for a few minor things, and a question has come up. My gravel shield is painted black, and I think that is correct, since it was an accessory. The shop thinks it should be body color (maroon). Who is correct? Thanks, Sid

Re: 1940 gravel shield
The rear gravel shield is always gloss black regardless of body color. This accessory was not available until approximately April 16, 1940.

Re: 1940 gravel shield
Black is a fact. Opps, there's a gravel shield installed but it's hard to see.

Guess I'm guilty of committing sacrilege, mine is body color.

Re: 1940 gravel shield
On some color cars, I tend to agree. However, the question was what was correct. That's black. Period.
I'd just recently completed a Folkstone Gray coupe. The contrast of the black pan appears very nicely against the body color. Same goes (IMO) for the Cloudmist coupe I'd done a couple of years ago.
