Re: No electricity. No crank. No horn
Looks like George posted his question and has not looked at the site since.

Re: No electricity. No crank. No horn
Thanks so much for everyone's reply. I finally had a chance to work on the car over the weekend. It turned out that the battery connector is all gummed up, so I took a metal brush and cleaned the battery connector. And voila! The car started right away. I will work on the LED lights next. Thanks again!

Re: No electricity. No crank. No horn
Just curious about the proper way of shutting down Model A. Right now I just turn the gas valve from vertical to horizontal to cut off the gas intake. Is that the right way to do it? Thanks!

Re: No electricity. No crank. No horn
My fuel valve is just opposite, horizontal is off. Doesn't make any difference though, turning it off is good whatever the lever position. I also retard the spark as I turn off the key.

Re: No electricity. No crank. No horn
ModelLeaf - If your carb float valve does not seal the gas off completely (a common float valve issue), doing this will keep gas in the fuel line from creating a slight drip as that fuel leaks into the carb air intake. In a perfect world, the float bowl should be able to withstand leaking through the float valve without turning off the shutoff valve. If gas leaks through both the shutoff and the float valve, you have a problem that needs immediate attention.
Others on FB report that running the float mostly dry has 2 benefits. One is when turning the valve on it flushes possible dirt/etc. out of the float valve. The other reason is it drains the fuel line and most of the carb carb bowl reducing the amount of collection of varnish/etc. from gas varnish during longer periods of not being used. Really is a good idea to completely drain the float bowl via the drain bolt for long term storage. |
