Fuel Shut Off Valve
I have a '31 coupe with the shut off valve in the cab under the gas tank. Gas slowly leaks from the jam nut on the handle.
Is it best to just buy a new valve or would it be worth trying the repair kit? The repair kit comes with packing, jam nut and lock washer. Is it possible that the valve I have needs new packing and that's why it's leaking? Thanks! |

Re: Fuel Shut Off Valve
I used the repair kit and it hasn't leaked in 4-5 years.

Before tackling the packing on the valve be sure it isn't leaking down to the carb. You could spend a lot of time fixing a bad valve. A little tooth past is a good way to lap the valve before installing the packing, just to be on the safe side. My 2¢

Is it difficult to repair the valve? It's not leaking down to the carb. It's only leaking around the jam nut on the handle.

Re: Fuel Shut Off Valve
I purchased new USA valve from Snyder's and installed it only to find out one of my gas lines inside had a small crack.
So not to play around I ordered new fuel lines and now happy and feel better that I did replace everything inside cab for I did not want to smell gas inside cab. I also felt the fuel lines were better designed and sealed better than the ones that were there. You surely do not want to have to drain that tank a lot to keep fixing an interior leak.. |
