2013 F 150 Chatter
I don't know if this is to new of a truck to ask about here. I always look at the Model A area. I have both a 30 fordor[4 door] and 31 pick-up. My truck is an ecoboost with a 6 1/2 box. The problem is that I get shutter when starting from a standing stop. Much worse when pulling a trailer or with a load on the truck. I have tried to get Ford to correct the problem but they tell me that this is a condition with the 6 1/2 ft. box and not a defect. Any one had this problem and what is the fix with Ford doing the fix.
Thanks Glenn Mott |

Re: 2013 F 150 Chatter
I would check the drive shaft angles. I drive a 2007 150. It has a Bell Tech lowering kit on it. An important part of that is a one inch thick spacer between the trans mount and the cross member to change that angle back to near stock. If you have a very short wheel base, maybe the factory guys overlooked making that angle right.

If yours is an automatic - read on :
I'm having the same problem with my 2003 F150 5.4. But mine has 240,000 miles on it. It has "Torque Converter Shudder". It happens to older F150 models and should not happen to a new one unless the torque converter is bad. The fix for mine is a $1800 rebuild. |

My son had a late 90s short bed 4wd that had a similar problem when new . the cure was to pull the slip joint apart on the rear drive shaft and grease it and reassemble it .

That "shudder" seems to cross lines.
My wife had a Black 2012 Fiesta that developed that same symptom. Her solution was to total it and make me buy her a Black 2015 Fiesta. (She was not hurt - it doesn't take much to total them any more.) I probably shouldn't have shown her this the Ken Block Video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUO-lPubXeI |

Re: 2013 F 150 Chatter
You probably have a 2 piece drive shaft and the angles are too sharp. Like others have said, its not much you can do. I had a shudder on my F250 with the 2 piece shaft. I loosened the center bearing and pulled the truck forward just enough for it to find where it wanted to be and then tightened it back. Did the same thing for an exhaust vibration. That was 170000 miles ago.
good luck wbedwards |
