Model A Shock Sets
Restoring a 1928 Leatherback. The car has no shocks or shock parts. I have been looking at options for buying shocks - rebuilt or repro, if good. THis will be a nice driver, not a point car but I want it pretty original looking at least. Shock kits at Snyder's or other distributors that include arms, etc are around $1,100-1,300. Little Dearborn in MN offers a full set and kit for less than $700. Does anyone have information on the quality of their stuff and why so inexpensive? Thanks for help in advance.

If you do a search on shocks you will find lots of posts on them Bill Stipe makes the best , The ones the vendors sell that don't contain oil are the worst John Cochran |

Re: Model A Shock Sets
It says they are the best on the market and are made in U.S.A. Does make you wonder why they are way less than the others. Iv'e been putting off buying shocks, I hadn't looked on Little Dearborn. I could nearly afford those if they are any good. Wait and see if anyone is running them.

Re: Model A Shock Sets
$700 is not a low price IMHO. I would buy a restored set from a shock guy. They go for less than $100 each without a core. John Holland is one in Ohio. I have 3 shock arms I'd sell for $10 each.

Admittedly, these are stiffer than the factory shocks, but it is a functional and inexpensive option especially if your car is missing not just the shocks, but also all the needed linkages. http://www.kendavismodela.com/Shocks.html

Re: Model A Shock Sets
Considering the price difference and the car is a driver and not a points car why not convert to the modern tube type?

Re: Model A Shock Sets
I agree. But they have been saying for the last year that the next run would be out this May. Not out yet. I'm on the waiting list.
