Is an English Ford considered a qualified Forum discussion candidate?

Re: 51 prefect
A Ford is a Ford no matter where it was manufactured. Even the continuation of Ford products under a different banner like Simca is worthy of mention.

Re: 51 prefect
Thanks Tony.
I have checked all that out. Mine dynoed at 22 hp/38 ft lb of torque. Not bad after sitting for 20? years. They need speed equip if you want to go anywhere. LOL I'm in the process and hopeful, of getting a 60hp flatty togethed for it. Got to have that v8 sound. Makes it sound like you have more power I guess. Want to keep it old ford and be able to go for an Ice Cream, without it being a day trip... My concern is. Is it acceptable to ask questions or search for parts on this forum? Don't want to create a Sunami. |

Re: 51 prefect
My dad drove an English Ford to work in Seattle in the early 50s. I vaguely remember what it looked like. It was green. Next work car was a 59 Studebaker.

I have wondered for a while about any compatibility of U.S. produced Ford parts , and english Fords. Drive train components I mean. As in clutch spline size and drive shaft spline etc. I am trying to get my 60hp together to install it in my Prefect Memmorial Car. Because of our weather up here, it's in storage til spring. So I haven't torn it apart yet. Likely will only use it quite locally, so it doesn't have to be prefect. Bernie |

Re: 51 prefect
I had 1 49 Anglia in the early 60,s.It was a cute low milage car.but was so gutless,it couldnt pull the skin off a rice pudding!A V8-60 would have been nice, but they had very weak rear ends that could barely take the torque? of the stock engine. The Prefects were known as Defects up here.

Re: 51 prefect
This brings back memories, back in the day here in New Zealand we would swap out a Morris 8 hp engine for a ford ten and think it was the hottest thing on the planet. They were nearly a straight swap with 4 bolts to the gearbox that lined up perfectly with a big ratail file. Those were the days. These hp figures were the old pommy rated system so a 10hp ford over a 8 hp morris was about 10 real hp which was a lot when you only had 22 to start with. LOL Tony.
