Ron
The part I like about building Flatheads and race cars is:: al the stuff you have to make, Just to make the stuff you need. Right now I'm making a fixture to convert the stock head into an angle plug heat , ssssso you can run a latr powertip plug. So the adverge guy could do it. Also modify an 8BA head to give a much higher compression ratio. Gota get better gas mileage as well. Gota have something to do when you turn 87 tomorrow.

Let me be this first to wish you a Happy Birthday, Ron. You are an inspiration to all of us. Personally, as long as I see you posting and sharing all of the stuff you know, I know I have at least 10 more years!

How about filling the transfer area on the exhaust side only? You need a good transfer area for airflow but since the exhaust is forced out, flow is not as critical. Maybe a shallow relief on the exhaust side unless it hurts compression too much.
As food for thought, there's a YouTube video (on RoadKill.com, I think) where they dyno tested a performance 350 Chevy with headers, then started smashing header tubes with a blacksmith hammer and retesting. They kept it up until the tubes were almost flat and only lost a few HP (maybe 5 or so if I remember). So don't worry about restricting exhaust flow in search of compression. Since you're after fuel mileage, you'll never be at full throttle anyway.
