47 Clutch adjustment
Hi,
I'm getting closer to finishing the install of a rebuilt transmission and new clutch and pressure plate in my 47 Tudor. I'm confused about a couple things, the through out bearing has a spring that pulls it back and the clutch pedal also has a return spring on it. It seems like the spring for the pedal over rides the spring on the through out bearing? The spring for the pedal hooks to the pin on the back side (clevis end) and wondering where the other goes? Mine was straight down and hooked to the crossmember. To adjust the clutch pedal free play, do I just have an inch of freeplay at the pedal with the floorboard installed? If I do this the bearing is a fair amount away from the fingers on the pressure plate. When I adjust the bearing closer to the fingers on the pressure plate the pedal is higher than the floor pan. Thanks, Don |

Re: 47 Clutch adjustment
A 1" clutch play is correct. On my '37 I have the small spring where the throw-out bearing is and also the longer, stronger spring hooked to a pin for the pedal. If I remember correctly the pedal return spring hooks to a pin and then back to the rear transmission mount. Should be a small hole to hook it to. Been awhile...

Re: 47 Clutch adjustment
My 46 has a hole in the crossmember for the other end of the spring.

Re: 47 Clutch adjustment
How long is the return spring supposed to be? I'm not seeing a hole in the crossmember. Still sorting out adjustment. I believe that the clutch pedal comes up against the floor pan and the rubber seal around it cushions it from rattling. If I understand this correctly I should have about 1" of freeplay before the bearing touches the fingers on the pressure plate? Thanks Don
